With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I would feature another ornament tutorial. Although this isn’t as full in detail, it is an overview of the materials needed and what the finished product will {should} look like. Not too long ago, I received a custom order inquiry through my Etsy store from an Insurance Agent to create a “house/home” ornament for her new clients that recently purchased home owners insurance through her. What a FABULOUS idea, right? I did some web browsing for idea generators and put my creative juices to work… and voila! These darling little homes emerged.
Supplies: Cardboard, Red Felt, Gray Felt, Stiff White Felt, Black Embroidery Floss, Red String/Yarn for the loop, Red Thread (or a couple of strands of embroidery floss would work too), Glue Gun and scrap felt (in your choice of colors for the accents).
Sketch out your home and cut from cardboard, then cut your red felt to fit over the cardboard cutout. Before stitching the felt around the cardboard, cut small windows from the stiff white felt and sew on to the front red flap of the house with the black embroidery floss. Glue a 6-8″ strand of yarn to the cardboard and you’re now ready to sew the red felt around the entire perimeter of the house. Once this is done, all of the other pieces can be cut and hot glued to the home. The stitching and placement of the small felt pieces/accents are the tedious part of this project, but overall it’s not too difficult at all. Just a little time consuming {smile}.
These would make great tree ornaments, housewarming gifts, and/or a gift embellishment. How about giving one to your new neighbor in welcoming them to the neighborhood. For those of you who might know someone who is an insurance agent or real estate agent, what a perfect way for them to say, “Thanks for your business!” or “Congratulations on your new home!”
