Do you enjoy a good smoothie? I certainly do, especially when the weather is warm and I want something cold, refreshing, and easy to make. This Mango Smoothie combines sweet frozen mango, milk, and vanilla protein powder for a creamy drink that’s packed with fruity flavor and ready in about 10 minutes.

Whether you enjoy it for breakfast, after a workout, or as a mid-afternoon snack, this simple mango smoothie is a delicious way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth. Best of all, you only need a handful of ingredients and a blender to make it.

Easy Mango Smoothie for Breakfast or a Snack

There’s something about a cold smoothie on a hot summer day that really hits the spot. It’s refreshing, filling, and easy to enjoy whether it’s morning, noon, or night.

While I’m usually more than ready to welcome fall—with its falling leaves, pumpkins, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice everything—I’m not about to wish away all of summer’s delicious flavors. Mango is one of those ingredients that instantly makes a drink taste bright, tropical, and sunny.

This easy Mango Smoothie has long been one of my favorite breakfast drinks, particularly during those stretches of summer when the temperatures climb into the 90s or even reach the triple digits. On mornings like that, a hot breakfast doesn’t always sound appealing. A cold, creamy smoothie, however, is just the thing.

It’s also an easy option when you’re short on time. Simply add the ingredients to the blender, blend until smooth, and pour it into your favorite glass. Breakfast is served!

Why You’ll Love This Mango Protein Smoothie

This recipe is wonderfully uncomplicated, but it still delivers plenty of flavor. Here are a few reasons it deserves a spot in your smoothie rotation:

It’s quick and easy. The entire smoothie comes together in about 10 minutes, and most of that time is spent measuring and blending.

It uses simple ingredients. You only need milk, frozen mango, vanilla protein powder, and ice.

It’s easy to customize. You can adjust the milk, fruit, protein powder, and consistency based on your preferences.

It’s naturally sweet and fruity. Frozen mango gives the smoothie plenty of tropical flavor without requiring a long list of added ingredients.

It works for different times of the day. Enjoy it for breakfast, as a quick snack, or after exercising.

Mango Smoothie Ingredients

Mango smoothie ingredients arranged around a blender, including ice, milk, protein powder, and frozen mango pieces.

One of the best things about this smoothie is its short ingredient list. Here’s what you’ll need:

Skim Milk

Skim milk creates a smooth and creamy base without making the drink feel too heavy. You can substitute another type of dairy milk or use your favorite unsweetened non-dairy milk.

Almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, and cashew milk can all work well. Keep in mind that your choice of milk may slightly change the flavor and texture of the smoothie.

Frozen Mango Pieces

Frozen mango is the star of this recipe. It gives the smoothie its naturally sweet tropical flavor and helps create a cold, creamy consistency.

Using frozen mango also means you don’t have to peel and cut a fresh mango every time you want a smoothie. Keep a bag in the freezer, and you’ll always have the main ingredient ready to go.

Vanilla Protein Powder

Vanilla protein powder adds flavor and makes the smoothie more satisfying. Since protein powders vary by brand and scoop size, you may want to start with a smaller amount and add more to suit your taste.

A plain or unflavored protein powder can also be used, although you may want to add a splash of vanilla extract or another ingredient for sweetness.

Ice Cubes

Ice is optional, but it can help thicken the smoothie and make it extra cold. Start with just a few cubes so the drink doesn’t become watered down.

How to Make a Mango Smoothie

Making this smoothie couldn’t be easier.

First, pour the milk into your blender. Adding the liquid first helps the blades move more freely and makes it easier to blend the frozen fruit.

Next, add the frozen mango pieces. Blend until the large pieces of fruit begin to break down.

Add a few ice cubes if you prefer a thicker or colder smoothie. Continue blending until the mango and ice are mostly smooth.

Finally, add the vanilla protein powder. Pulse or blend briefly until everything is well combined. Avoid blending longer than necessary after adding the protein powder, as some varieties can become overly foamy.

Pour the smoothie into a glass and enjoy it immediately.

Tips for a Creamy Mango Smoothie

For the best flavor and texture, use mango pieces that are fully frozen. Fresh mango will still taste delicious, but the smoothie may be thinner unless you add more ice.

If the smoothie is too thick, add a small splash of milk and blend again. Add the liquid gradually so you don’t accidentally make the drink too thin.

If the smoothie is too thin, add a few more pieces of frozen mango or several ice cubes. Blend again until it reaches your preferred consistency.

A high-powered blender will usually create the smoothest texture, but a standard blender should also work. You may simply need to stop and scrape down the sides or blend the fruit in smaller intervals.

Mango Smoothie Variations

This basic recipe is easy to adjust, so feel free to experiment with different flavors.

For a mango banana smoothie, add half of a frozen banana. The banana will make the drink thicker, creamier, and slightly sweeter.

For a more tropical flavor, substitute coconut milk for the skim milk. You could also add pineapple chunks for a mango-pineapple smoothie.

A spoonful of Greek yogurt will create a thicker texture and add a little tanginess. Plain, vanilla, or coconut yogurt would all pair nicely with mango.

You can also add a small amount of orange juice for a brighter citrus flavor. Since juice adds sweetness and thins the smoothie, start with a splash.

For extra flavor, try a little vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, shredded coconut, or a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

And while mango is delicious, you can certainly use this recipe as a starting point for other fruit smoothies. Frozen strawberries, peaches, pineapple, blueberries, or mixed berries can be substituted for some or all of the mango.

Can You Make a Mango Smoothie Ahead of Time?

Smoothies taste best when they’re freshly blended, but you can still do a little preparation ahead of time.

Measure the frozen mango and place it in a freezer-safe container or reusable bag. You can prepare several individual smoothie packs at once and keep them in the freezer. When you’re ready to make one, simply pour the fruit into the blender and add the milk and protein powder.

A finished smoothie can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for a short time, but it may separate or lose some of its thick texture. Stir or shake it well before drinking.

For the freshest flavor and creamiest consistency, I recommend blending it just before serving.
